In 1891 Joseph G. Calcagni came from Italy to work for, and eventually own, the Novelli and Calcagni manufacturing plant. During his tenure, the facility grew famous for creating extraordinary monument and mausoleums. Since then four generations of the Calcagni family have worked in the granite industry in Barre, Vermont.
In 1969 the Granite Corporation of Barre was formed by Joseph B. Calcagni, grandson of Joseph G. Calcagni. Today, Joseph B. Calcagni and his two sons Joseph V. and Matthew J. Calcagni, both principals in the company, work together specializing in the design, construction, and restoration of granite and bronze mausoleums, memorials, sculpture and stairways.
